Planners have given the green light to a vacant former Argos store to welcome a new tenant.
The 2,025m² store at Pasteur Road Retail Park, which includes B&Q and Home Bargains, has been targeted by Pure Gym, the UK’s largest gym operator with over 300 locations.
The budget gym has a habit of targeting Argos stores after many standalone stores were closed by Sainsbury’s and moved to their supermarkets after buying the catalog-based business in 2016.
Unit 5, the end unit next to Pets at Home, had a condition that the premises could only be used for the sale of various bulky products and associated items.
In approving the planners of the Great Yarmouth Borough Council offer, they said ‘no harm’ had been identified and the claimant had successfully demonstrated that there were no other premises available more near downtown.
They also argued that it might slightly benefit downtown by removing a retailer.
Yarmouth’s new 24-hour gym is being promoted on the company’s website with an opening offer.
