Early 2023 is still a long way off, so we might see that pushed back, which pretty much confirms that we won’t see PlayStation’s new VR headset anytime in 2022.
Is PSVR shut down?
It doesn’t look like PSVR has been discontinued following the reveal of PSVR 2. It’s likely that production will slow down to make way for PSVR 2, although at some point after the release of the new headset we might see the former being entirely taken out of production.
Is PSVR 2 backwards compatible?
PSVR 2 will not be backward compatible, as confirmed by PlayStation’s Hideaki Nishino.
This was done in an effort to preserve the potential of next-gen games, as PSVR games will not be optimized for PSVR 2 hardware.
It’s possible, however, that we’ll see ports of certain games, which would be better optimized for the hardware of the new headset.

- Amazon
- Target
- walmart
- Game (UK)
- Argos (UK)
