CD Projekt Red will be rolling out their long-awaited next-gen update for The Witcher 3 on December 14, and with it bring new performance and quality modes, a new photo mode, and other quality of life features to the game.
However, it will also bring something that may not be entirely welcome.
Why yes, Witcher fans, this next-gen update will also include Netflix’s take (at least for its first season) on Nilfgaardian army armour.
For some background on this, in the first season of Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher, the Nilfgaardian army wore armor that was quite controversial in its design. In fact, some have compared it to a bag of bullets.
You can see it (the Netflix armor, not a bullet bag) in the image below.
In 2020, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said IGN this armor was designed in this way in an effort to keep the Nilfgaardian army away from “the Cintran army”.
Apparently it was “not meant to look the same as standard armor” (which, to be fair, the Netflix team certainly achieved with this design).
However, this choice of the production team was widely derided, so much so that in later seasons it was changed to be less wrinkled and unattractive.
But while Netflix may have wanted to move on from the old wrinkled armor, Witcher developer CD Projekt Red clearly didn’t.
In the words of AniGaming Nation: “the thing you hated from The Witcher Netflix show is coming to the game.” Along with that proclamation, they also shared a nice close-up image of CDPR’s vision for the armor, which you can see below.
The Thing You Hated From The Witcher Netflix Show Is Coming To The Game
The wrinkled and disgusting Nilfgaard armor from The Witcher Netflix show is coming to The Witcher 3, as part of the next-gen upgrade. This is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on December 15.

This armor will be part of Netflix’s The Witcher TV series-themed DLC, which will also include new armor and weapon options for Geralt and a new outfit for Jaskier – and there’s even a new quest related to their acquisition, with Doug Cockle returns to lead role.
So, are you excited to see more of this armor with its shiny new current-gen graphics?
Last month it was announced that Henry Cavill will not return to the role of Geralt of Rivia for the show’s fourth season.
He will now be replaced by Liam Hemsworthwho is best known for playing Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games film series.
