Next summer, we’ll all be battling titans alongside the Survey Corps in virtual reality courtesy of UNIVRS Inc.
Have you ever watched your favorite anime and thought about jumping in and joining the action? It would be pretty cool to be empowered and become a magical girl or go to a special high school with other future superheroes. Well, VR games may soon contain exactly the adventures you are looking for. Unfortunately, you risk getting eaten….
You will definitely get eaten.
Attack on Titan: Unbreakable
On Thursday, game developer UNIVRS Inc. announced that it was developing an VR (virtual reality) game based on The attack of the Titans. The next game which will be called Attack on Titan VR: UnbreakableWe will be playing on the Meta Quest 2 VR headset console in the summer of 2023.
While the forty-two-second trailer doesn’t tell us much about the game, UNIVRS Inc. has released a smattering of details about the project. They describe it as a “hunting action game”. Players will join the Survey Corps and set out with their omnidirectional mobility gear to hunt down the biggest threat to the walls protecting your city; The Titans.
Gameplay will support up to two players and will be available in English and Japanese for text and voice. And with The attack of the Titansof the famous omnidirectional movement gear, players should expect to have huge control over their ability to move around in-game. Which honestly sounds pretty cool.
Personally, I can think of a few anime universes I’d like to fall into less that The attack of the Titans. I saw this show and what happens to the people who live there. And I don’t even want to think about mixing my coordination with ODM equipment.
Virtual reality makes anime more real
But it’s hard to deny The attack of the Titans may be the perfect anime for a VR game adaptation. Swiping around like Spider-Man looks undeniably fun. And without the reality of literally being eaten by a Titan? It looks like a terrifying and compelling horror action game. If you get eaten (and let’s be honest, you will be get eaten) you can just try, try again.
Previously, UNIVRS Inc. was known for developing the 2020 Little Witch Academia VR game Broom Racing. Available on PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, Meta Quest 2 and SteamVR, the Little Witch Academy racing game is the product of a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2019. And people love it. The game received a positive response from fans and looks very cute and perfect for the series. The attack of the Titans may be a little harder to fit in tone, art style, and necessary gameplay mechanics and movement, but UNIVRS has a history of making games that make anime fans happy in the past. How will be Attack on Titan: Unbreakable hold on? Only time will tell. I hope you are all working hard to get the best percentage of this year’s titan battle class.
