A COOLING artificial intelligence (AI) has offered a glimpse of what the “face of God” could look like in a series of chilling images.
Responding to prompts such as “Face of God”, “Face of God”, and “God”, the AI program revealed a series of strange and supernatural images.
The footage shows a mix of people – the vast majority of them appearing to be female – created from the mind of the machine.
Would any of them be what you would see if you were to truly step into the light and meet our maker when we die?
One of the most striking images shows the shriveled face of an old man seemingly emerging from a mountainside.
His head is topped with a mixture of trees and horn-like growths as he gazes out from the mountain range.

It is one of many products using the NightCafe Creator system – one of the next generation computing tools used to create art.
He was offered the “Face of God” prompt in both portrait and landscape mode – creating an unsettling mix of images.
The faces look human – but have a distinctly otherworldly, ethereal quality to them.
Most appear feminine or androgynous – even though many religions refer to their god as “he”, “him” or “father”.
The gender of god is often debated among religious scholars – and many religions have female gods, such as Bhumi in Hinduism.
And one particularly striking image shows what appears to be a disembodied female face adorned with all sorts of crown-like growths.
She stares at the viewer from the center of the image with an orange glow on her cheek that could possibly be a golden tear.
Another more otherworldly image shows a bald head with a mechanical beard appearing to emerge from a mountainside.
It overlooks the desolate landscape – perhaps thinking of its creation.
Other striking images show a beautiful woman with a crown that could be made of trash.
She has a strong glow around her and is sitting with her eyes closed.
And one shows another female face with her eyes closed as what appears to be a halo rises above her head.
While another image appears shows a person with a stern expression while wearing a wimple or beanie.
The images of faces created by the AI appear to be a mixture of angelic and ethereal.
Landscape options meanwhile are dark and eerie with steep, fire-lit mountainsides while some appear to have temple-like structures.
Could any of them really be the face of God?
Of course, the AI system is only responding to the limited prompts given to it rather than having deep and respectful knowledge.
The NightCafe Creator AI system was used to produce the footage – and it’s one of many new tools showing the limits of computer technology.
It works by simply offering a few words as a prompt before the system produces an artwork.
The system was invented by Angus Russell and named after the famous Vincent Van Gogh painting “The Night Cafe”.
It uses machine learning and a neural network to stitch images together based on prompts given to it by humans.
The AI-generated art has sparked controversy as some systems allow users to sell their pieces.
NightCafe does not offer this feature.
The first AI artwork sold in the United States was titled Portrait of Edmond Belamy — well above the $432,000 asking price in 2018.
It comes after a hyperrealistic sculpture was created from latex, silicone and real human hair to represent Jesus Christ.
The creation was based on the famous Shroud of Turin – which some say shows the true face of the biblical figure of Jesus.
In 2015, scientists stunned the world with a drawing of what Jesus might have looked likebased on what is known of his life.
Traditionally, Jesus is depicted as having long hair, blue eyes, and white skin, despite being born in the Judea region of the Middle East.
But a British scientist believes he has found a much more accurate depiction of what the Christian icon might have looked like, based on forensic anthropology.
Richard Neave, a retired medical artist from the University of Manchester, first posted the image in 2015 – but the depiction has recently returned to prominence online.
Contrary to popular Western depictions, they hold that the son of God might have had black eyes and short, curly hair appropriate for men of the time.

Given that Jesus worked outdoors as a carpenter until he was around 30, Neave and his team believe he was more muscular and fit than Western portraits suggest, with a tanned face that made him look older.
Neave pointed out that his recreation of Jesus is simply that of a grown man who lived in the same place at the same time.
