Artificial intelligence has clearly made a very big impression on the internet lately.
And the latest AI creation follows what Europeans supposedly think Americans look like each of the 50 states, but – be warned – the images generated may hurt your feelings. Check it out:
Oh, and this is by no means the first time the AI has divided opinion over the generated images it spits out.
Some of the patterns make some kind of sense while others – I’m looking at you in New Mexico and Idaho – are downright weird.
With the addition of some pretty crazy props, including wild animals, a huge potato, and for some reason large amounts of corn and seafood, all against the backdrop of some stunning scenery – it is no exaggeration to call these images a bit of an attack on the senses.
Well, now Americans can finally see what those across the pond Really think about them in addition to being aware of the various stereotypes that are currently pervasive in AI models.
Kicking off the recap is none other than Alabama – complete with Krusty the Clown hairstyle, toothless smile and dirty clothes.
Alabama seems to have definitely drawn the short straw from the pack and will no doubt receive some pushback.

The next step is Californiaone of only 10 women who appear in AI depictions alongside other men and families, and the only woman in all 50 states to appear alone in an image.
She can be seen holding two, yes two, to-go coffees alongside a cute little dog under her arm.
Drizzled in a groovy sweater with beach waves and shades to match – many Californians may consider this one acceptable.

NOW, Florida on the other hand is a together different story.
While memes of the maniacal “Florida Man” have been doing their rounds online for quite some time now, it seems this particular generation of images has finally given the elusive and mysterious character a face.
A cheerful-looking guy, Mr. Florida just seems happy to be here, but it looks like he could snap and be up to his rep at any moment…

It’s nothing new that many AI images come with various props and nods to the state’s history and culture, and Idaho is clearly no exception.
The man, dressed in a tartan shirt and cap, can be seen simply sitting on a stool cradling an abnormally large potato.
With a face of pride, fatigue and somehow sadness mixed together – Mr. Idaho is definitely a baffle.
A bit peculiar – but hey – this is the AI for you.

Arguably one of the least visually stressful depictions of AI out there, Hawaii looks like an old movie poster or tourist postcard.
Both individuals wear open-toed sandals, flower garland necklaces and sunglasses as they perch on a rock enjoying the view of the beach.
Oh, and obviously Hawaiian shirts are involved in the mix.

Why do I feel like I’ve seen Mr. Massachusetts about in real life?
The man is covered in sweat, sporting a gym kit, a backward facing baseball cap and a very stressed expression plastered to his face.
Whether it’s simple passion or pure rage, this one stands out 100% from the pack.

Welcome to Sin City – we were probably all expecting some sort of Las Vegas and slots reference, but maybe we were hoping for something slightly More subtle.
That said, however, it looks like this grandpa seems to be having the time of his life as chaos ensues behind him.

I literally have no words other than, what the hell? !
Like something straight out of a corny sci-fi movie, New Mexico and the countless aliens behind him were definitely not was what I expected.

NOW Texas seems to encapsulate just about every stereotype about the state under the sun.
Armed with a gun in one hand and a burger bigger than his head in the other, Mr. Texas is likely to divide opinion.
The sunset behind it, if I do say so myself, is a surprisingly calmer background compared to the pure chaos present in the majority of AI images.
I wonder what the AI will do next…
